Installing the SMS MIF Generator (SMSWIN.EXE) - HP TopTools and Microsoft SMS Integration
HPIcon=
The next field, "HPIcon=" is a very important one. The possible values
for HPIcon are 0 (default) or 1.
HPIcon determines how the data is entered into the SMS database. If
HPIcon=0 (the default), then the DMI data is appended to the generic
SMS data. This setting gives you just one icon for each HP PC. If you
double-click on that icon, you see both the generic SMS information
and the DMI information together. If you make the setting HPIcon=1,
then the DMI data appears in the SMS console as a separate icon. Each
HP PC has two icons in the SMS console: one for the generic SMS data,
and one that only contains the DMI data.
The SMS client has the ability to read a correctly formatted MIF file. If
HPICON=0, then SMSWIN.EXE places the HPSMSMIF.MIF in the
NOIDMIFS directory on the SMS client PC (usually in
C:\ms\sms\noidmifs), including the DMI data with the generic SMS data
in a single icon. Inside the SMS database, the DMI data is added to the
"Personal Computer" architecture. If HPIcon=1, SMSWIN.EXE places
the HPSMSMIF.MIF file in the IDMIFS directory on the SMS client PC
(usually in C:\ms\sms\idmifs), displaying the DMI data via a separate
icon in the SMS console. Inside the SMS database, a new architecture,
HPVectraPC, is created to contain the DMI data. There are actually
slight differences between files placed in NOIDMIFS and IDMIFS, so
the HPSMSMIF.MIF files are not interchangeable.
[Exclude]
The next section in SMSWIN.INI is the [Exclude] section.
