Multiple short print jobs (less than 5 pages) reduce the life expectancy of the Imaging Units. Life
expectancy is also reduced each time the top cover is opened and closed, when the printer is
turned off and then on, when printing on transparencies or specialty papers, and when making
two-sided prints.
Fuser
The Fuser uses a combination of heat and pressure to bond the toner to the paper. After the toner
images are applied to the paper, it is passed through the Fuser where the heated Fuser rollers melt
the toner and bond it to the paper. A Front Panel message indicates when to replace the Fuser.
Troubleshooting the Fuser
For troubleshooting procedures related to the Fuser, refer to the troubleshooting charts and the
print quality troubleshooting charts located at the end of this worksheet.
Remove and Replace the Fuser
In this exercise, you will remove and replace the Fuser.
Using the Fuser instruction sheet, remove and replace the Fuser while observing the
procedure closely.
Fuser Life Expectancy
The life expectancy of the Fuser is 80,000 letter-size pages. Although the life expectancy is not
affected by toner coverage, several factors that may reduce the Fuser life include:

There are 120 V and 220 V Fusers available for the printer. If the wrong
Fuser is installed, the Front Panel displays an error message.

Service Manual contains a comprehensive list of troubleshooting
procedures for error messages that may appear on the Front Panel.
Refer to the Fuser instruction sheet on the Phaser 7300 Customer Support
Training CD-ROM for Information on replacing the Fuser.
When replacing the Fuser, remember it may be HOT. To avoid personal
injury, handle it carefully as shown in the instruction sheet.
