Imaging Unit Life Expectancy
The life expectancy of each Imaging Unit is 30,000 pages, and is determined by the number of
times the drum rotates. Life expectancy is based on the pixel count and drum rotation, which is
different than most color laser printers. When the Imaging Unit reaches pixel count life, the Front
Panel displays "Imaging Unit at end of life", but will not stop the printer. When drum rotation
approaches life count, the Front Panel displays "Imaging Unit near end of life". The cyan, magenta,
and yellow Imaging Units are typically replaced as a set. These drums wear out at about the same
time, regardless of the colors used for printing, because all three are lowered together onto the
Transfer Unit where the drums rotate.

The Error Messages and Codes section of the Phaser 7300 Color Printer
Service Manual contains a comprehensive list of troubleshooting
procedures for error messages that may appear on the Front Panel.
If the Front Panel indicates an Imaging Unit is near end of life, printing may
continue, but print quality may be degraded.
To avoid damage to the Imaging Units that degrades print quality, do not
expose them to light for more than 10 minutes. Place them in a light-proof,
black plastic bag to reduce exposure to light. When the Imaging Units are
removed, place them on a hard, flat surface to avoid dents or scratches.
Refer to the Imaging Unit instruction sheet on the Phaser 7300 Customer
Support Training CD-ROM for Information on replacing Imaging Units.
Remove all of the protective sheets from the Imaging Unit. Failure to remove
all of the protective sheets may result in damage to the Imaging Unit and to
the printer.
Using the Imaging Unit instruction sheet, remove and replace the black Imaging Unit
while observing the procedure closely.
Remove and replace the magenta Imaging Unit.
