An analog copy protection scheme intended to prevent playing back recordings made from DVD to

analog video devices, such as VCRs. Macrovision-encoded data sends electronic pulses to the analog device to
disrupt recording sync, thereby scrambling the recorded image.
Note: Using Macrovision copy protection requires that you pay a per-disc royalty. Your replication service will provide
you with more information on this.
To set region coding
You can control the countries in which your DVD will play by using region coding. Each region code corresponds
to a particular country or geographical region. Often, only DVD players from a specific region can recognize the
code for that region. DVDs coded for any other region will not play.
You can allow all regions to play your DVD, or only a select number of them. Region coding only works on replicated
DVDs. (See "Replicating DVDs" on page 194.) Projects written directly to DVD-R will have all regions enabled.
Click the Disc tab, and then click the Project Settings button to open the Project Settings dialog box.
1
In the Region Codes section, select All Regions, or select Custom to select any number of region codes. The

following table lists the available region codes.

To add ROM data to a DVD
Though most DVDs typically contain multimedia content organized for viewing, you can use the large capacity of
DVDs to archive content or add supplemental content, such as related PDF files or software applications. You can
include additional content on a typical DVD or you can create a ROM-only DVD that contains only archived content
(in other words, no menus or navigation).
ROM material is only available on personal computers. Furthermore, it's only available from the desktop, not from
the video content of a disc. You specify additional content on the Disc tab of the Project panel.
1
In the Project panel, click the Disc tab.
In the DVD-ROM content section, click Browse. Locate the content you want to add to the DVD, and click OK.
2
To create a ROM-only DVD, simply create a new project, specify the ROM content and then build the disc. There is
no need to include menus or timelines. Remember, though, ROM-only DVDs are essentially data storage devices and
will only be useful on computers.
