Release the locking tabs holding the processor in the

retention mechanism by pressing them toward the
processor.
Before picking up the processor, reduce static
discharge by touching the metal frame of the
system unit.
Lift the processor out of the retention mechanism.

Terminate the processor socket if it is to remain empty.

Otherwise, install the upgrade processor (see "Installing
an Upgrade Processor").
