Although some of the commands listed in Table 1-2 can be sent to all device types in either
protocol mode, they execute differently depending on the protocol mode in operation at the device
when the command is executed.
Several commands can be sent to DATAPHONE II devices but not to COMSPHERE devices in
either protocol mode. In such cases, the functionality of the DATAPHONE II command is provided
in other COMSPHERE commands. For example, in 3400/4400 Series modems, the DATAPHONE
II commands Receive Signal Level (rsl), Receive Signal Quality (rsq), and Signal Profile (sp) are
replaced by a single command, Circuit Quality (cq), which provides all the parameter results given
by the individual DATAPHONE II commands. This replacement command is an example of
command equivalence.
Table 1-3 lists the commands that execute differently and describes their operation in the different
protocol modes.

Command Operation Differences Based on Protocol Mode

Command
Abort (abort )
Can be issued as a subnetwork
abort causing the command to
propagate down the diagnostic
tree; or can be issued as a local
abort to any device in the tree.
Acquire Poll List
Most devices poll for modem
(acpl)
addresses 1 to 256. Multipoint
control modems poll only for
addresses 1 to 32. The 3600
Series devices poll only for
addresses 1 to 80.
