Performing Tests

The 6800 Series NMS contains a set of commands (Table 1-5) that allow you to test and/or
manipulate specified network devices. These commands are available from the System
Management window. These commands are classified as disruptive. A disruptive command is one
that interrupts primary data transmission.

Network Device Commands

Description
Used to stop all tests currently running
on a specified device.
Used to test the primary data channel
between a modem and its tributary
devices.
Used to cause a 3400/4400 Series
modem to attempt to calibrate the
transmitter on a selected link attached
tributary modem.
Used to cause a 3400/4400 Series
modem with a DBM to initiate a call
test.
Used to measure the inbound circuit
loss of a device from another device.
Used to measure the outbound circuit
loss of a device from another device.
Used to perform an internal test on the
device.
Used to cause a device to dial another
device.
Used to test transmitters and receivers
in specified control and tributary
devices as well as the primary data
transmission facility connecting the
devices.
Used to test the primary data channel
between a control device and a
tributary device.

Results
Displays the type of abort that
was sent.
Test results are expressed as
pass or fail.
Test results are expressed as
pass or fail. If the test fails, an
error message is displayed
indicating the failure.
Displays device-specific
information and indicates if the
command was successfully
completed.
Displays the tone frequency
specified and the decibel level
of the inbound signal.
Displays the tone frequency
specified and the decibel level
of the outbound signal.
Test results are expressed as
pass or fail, and the state of
the test as complete or
incomplete.
Indicates if the command
executed successfully.
Displays specified,
transmitted, and number of
errors for the number of bit
blocks specified (DPII APL).
Displays whether the
command executed
successfully (DDD and DSU).
Displays the attempted blocks,
blocks in error (inbound and
outbound), and indicates
completion of the test. For
3600 Series devices, indicates
the number of time outs and
the elapsed test time.
