Symptom-to-FRU lndex
The POST errar messages are displayed on
the
screen as 3-, 4-, 5-,
or 8-digit numbers; diagnostic errar messages
are
always shown as
eight digits. The Symptom-to-FRU lndex on page
116
lists ali errar
messages in the 8-digit fermat. Shorter POST errar messages are
shown in bold print within the 8-digit fermat. Some digits
represent
different
information
for SCSI versus non-SCSI errors.
Figure 2 shows which digits are the shorter POST errar messages,
and defines the SCSI information in an 8-digit errar message.

Figure 2. Format of Errar Messages
The Symptom-to-FRU lndex on page 116 lists the various symptoms,
errar numbers, and the most probable FRUs that cause specific fail-
ures. The most probable failing FRU is listed first. Use the
Symptom-to-FRU lndex to have the proper replacement FRUs avail-
able when you service the failing Service Bay System
.
lmportant:
To determine which FRU is actually failing, always begin with MAP
0000: Start on page
104
of this manual.
lf an errar message is
displayed and an incorrect audio response is heard, the most likely
failing FRUs are those listed for the errar message. An X shown in
the errar messages of the Symptom-to-FRU lndex can be any
number.
