lntroduction to Diagnostics
You cannot log errors to a diskette drive that is being tested. lf you
pian to test a diskette drive
,
you must log the errors to the primary
printer (if attached) orto a diskette drive not being tested .
Note: When recording errors onto a
diskette,
use a diskette that is
not write-protected
.
To create an Errar Log
:
1
.
Start the advanced diagnostic
tests.
2. Select
System Checkout
from the main menu.
3. Select Error Log.
4.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Adapter Diagnostics
The diagnostic diskette contains programs for testing the SCSI,
CD-ROM devices, hard disk drive, and hard disk drive controller cir-
cuits. No MAPs are required for these internai components since the
diagnostic programs previde a check of these FRUs.
The dual asynchronous adapter is also tested by the one of the self-
contained programs of the diagnostic diskette. lts wakeup and sense
circuits are
further
analyzed and tested for failing FRUs as part of the
Power MAP.
The GPIB diagnostics are run from a separate diagnostic diskette.
Memory Diagnostics
System memory diagnostics detect
parity, data,
and addressing
errors. The microprocessor writes patterns to the memory, and then
reads the patterns back to verify correct memory function. The diag-
nostic tests
display:
• The location of the detective memory
• The slot number if the defect is on a memory expansion adapter
• The expected and actual patterns if a data errar occurs.
