U-JOINT ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

Remove U-Joint Assembly

IMPORTANT: Save all hardware for reinstallation.
1. Turn engine key to off position, remove key and close
fuel valve.
2. Wait for all moving parts to stop and for hot parts to
cool.
3. Disconnect spark plug wire.
4. Remove brush attachment. See Separate Brush From
Frame on page 7.
5. Remove hardware retaining brush frame adapter to
pivot bracket and remove frame adapter. See
Figure 55.

6. Remove hardware retaining attachment drive pulley to
U-joint shaft and remove pulley and spacer. See
Figure 56.
7. Remove U-joint assembly.

Install U-Joint Assembly

1. Install U-Joint assembly into bearings. See Figure 57.
2. Reinstall spacer and attachment drive pulley onto U-
joint shaft. Secure with one locking washer and hex
nut.
3. Torque nut to 7.9 N•m – 16.5 N•m
(5.8 lb-ft – 12.2 lb-ft).
4. Reinstall brush frame adapter to pivot bracket and
secure with original stepped spacers, hex bolts and
locking nuts. See Figure 55.
5. Reinstall brush. See Install Brush to Frame on page 9.
