346 Maintenance and care
Ensure there is sufficient ground clear-
#
ance between the underbody and the
guide rails of the car wash.
Ensure that the clearance width of the
#
car wash, in particular the width of the
guide rails, is sufficient.
To avoid damage to your vehicle when using a car
wash, ensure the following beforehand:
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is deactiva-
R
ted.
The HOLD function is switched off.
R
The 360° Camera or the reversing camera is
R
switched off.
The side windows and sliding sunroof are com-
R
pletely closed.
The outside mirrors are folded in.
R
The blower for the ventilation and heating is
R
switched off.
The windshield wiper switch is in position g.
R
The key is at a minimum distance of 10 ft
R
(3 m) away from the vehicle. The tailgate could
otherwise open unintentionally.
For car washes with a conveyor system:
R
Neutral i is engaged.

If you would like to leave the vehicle while
-
it is being washed, make sure the key is
located in the vehicle. Park position j is
otherwise automatically engaged.

To prevent damage to the tires or rims, drive
straight and into the center of the guide rails
of the car wash.
%
If, after the car wash, you remove the wax
from the windshield and wiper rubbers, this
will prevent smearing and reduce wiper noise.
Automatic car wash mode
In car wash mode, the vehicle is prepared for driv-
ing into the automatic car wash. Car wash mode
can be activated at a speed of up to 12 mph
(20 km/h) (
page 347).

The following settings are adjusted when car wash
mode is activated:
The outside mirrors are folded in.
R
To prevent the windshield washer system from
R
starting up automatically, the rain sensor is
deactivated.
The rear window wiper is deactivated.
R
Mercedes-Maybach vehicles: the running
R
boards are retracted.
The air conditioning system is set to air-recir-
R
culation mode.
Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is deactivated.
R
Vehicles with 360° Camera: the front image is
R
activated after approx. eight seconds.
Vehicles with AIRMATIC: the vehicle is raised
R
to the maximum possible chassis level
(
page 250).

If rising takes longer than 25 seconds, the fol-
lowing message appears on the Instrument
Display:
Preparation for Automatic Car Wash Incom-
plete See Media
Display. After some time, the
vehicle automatically continues rising.
Vehicles with E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL: the
R
vehicle is raised to the maximum possible
chassis level (
page 258).

If rising takes longer than 25 seconds, the fol-
lowing message appears on the Instrument
