Basic Troubleshooting: Dell PowerVault 735N Systems Service Manual
ActiveArchive™ from an NFS
or Macintosh client.
I cannot take a snapshot of my
volume.
I have deleted a volume and
created a new one. Now, I
cannot take a snapshot of the
new volume.
I created a new basic volume
but cannot take a snapshot of
the volume.
XCOPY does not run on a
share I have created in the
root of a volume on my
system.
I cannot create shares for
NetWare® or Macintosh
clients in PowerVault NAS
manager.
I have just created an HTTP
share and cannot browse the
directories.

system (CIFS) clients can access the
snapshots stored in the Dell
ActiveArchive folders for each
volume.
A snapshot cannot be taken of the
volume containing the snapshot
cache file.
When a volume is deleted, a new
one is created, and both volumes
have the same drive letter,
snapshots are not active for the new
volume until the system has been
rebooted.
After creating a basic volume, the
system must be rebooted before a
snapshot can be taken.
Since Dell ActiveArchive is enabled,
XCOPY does not read the snapshots
on a volume.
NetWare and Macintosh Shares can
only be set up from the Advanced
Administration Menu.
Directory Browsing is not selected by
default for shares that were originally
created through the Advanced
Administration Menu (NetWare and
Macintosh) and are now being used
for HTTP sharing.

The cache file is located on the C:
drive. Taking a snapshot of the C:
drive is not supported.
Reboot the system. After the
reboot, snapshots should work
correctly for the new volume.
Upgrade the volume to dynamic

When Dell ActiveArchive is
enabled, only use XCOPY on
folders and shares other than the
root directory of a volume.
Create new shares using the
Terminal Services Advanced
Client. To do this, perform the
following steps:
1. Select Terminal Services
Advanced Client from the
PowerVault 735N NAS Manager
Maintenance menu.
2. Select Shares Management
from the Advanced
Administration Menu.
Select Directory Browsing using
the Terminal Services Advanced
Client. To do this, perform the
following steps:
1. In the NAS Manager
Maintenance menu, select
Terminal Services Advanced
Client.
2. Exit the Advanced
Administration Menu.
3. On the desktop, double-click
