The unit does not turn off.
The  (power) button may not respond while the
unit is starting up.
The STANDBY indicator remains lit even after you
disconnect the power cord.
If the display is set to enter power save mode when
the unit is turned off, the STANDBY indicator may
remain lit for a while. This is not a malfunction.
Display
Various information and images appear in the
display after you connect the power cord, even
when you do not press  (power).
When the unit is turned on, various information
and images appear in the display when you do
not operate the unit for a while.
The display is set to demonstration mode. To cancel
demonstration mode, see page 21.
The display on the screen is distorted.
The unit is being subjected to shocks or vibrations.
Place the unit at a stable location.
On rare occasions, characteristics of the HDD may
cause some distortion in the display; this, however, is
not a malfunction.
Sound output
There is no sound.
Press the VOLUME +/– buttons or MUTING button
to cancel muting.
Cancel pause.
Confirm that nothing is connected to the 
(headphones) jack.
Check the connections of the device connected to
the unit. Check if the respective function is selected.
Connect the speaker cords firmly.
The sound is muted while high speed recording
(from a CD to the HDD) is in progress.
The volume is set to "MIN" while Recording Timer
is in progress. Press VOLUME + to listen to the
sound.
The right-left sound balance is bad or reversed.
Connect the speakers and other devices correctly.
Place the speakers as symmetrically as possible.
Connect only the supplied speakers.
The sound has no depth and seems to be
monaural.

There is severe humming or noise in the sound.

Move the audio connecting cord away from any
display, fluorescent light, or other electrical devices.
Move the unit away from any display or TV.
If plugs or jacks are dirty, wipe them with a cloth
slightly moistened with alcohol.
The inserted disc is scratched or dirty.
Connect the unit to a different wall socket.
Install a noise filter (available separately) to the
power cord.
HDD
The unit cannot record a CD.
The disc is not compatible with any of the supported
audio CD standards.
The disc may be scratched or dirty.
The unit cannot import tracks.
The following audio formats can be imported to this
unit.
 MP3 (".mp3")
 Windows Media Audio file (".wma")
 AAC (".m4a", ".mp4"*

Only audio files can be imported on this unit.

Movie files cannot be imported.
The unit cannot start importing/recording audio
data to the HDD.
The HDD is full.
The number of tracks and albums on the HDD has
reached the upper limit.
