Guide to parts and controls Remote control CHARGE indicator Lights up while the remote control is being charged on the charger. The indicator turns off when charging has completed (page 15). Display window For details on the contents of the display, see page 12.

Display window This section introduces display windows that are frequently used. Home menu Appears when you press the HOME button. In this menu, you can select a function with the /// buttons. Installing the VAIO Media plus software on your computer To use VAIO Media plus as server software, install the VAIO Media plus software provided on the supplied CD-ROM on your computer. Turn on your computer and login with administrator rights. Insert the supplied VAIO Media plus CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
Connecting the unit to your home network (network setting) After you have installed VAIO Media plus on your computer, carry out the network settings to connect the unit to your computer. If you have any trouble with the network connections, consult the “Troubleshooting” section (page 54).

Instant (S-IWS) connection If you have the Sony “GIGA JUKE” Music Server and are using Instant (S-IWS) connection to connect to your home network, you can use Instant (S-IWS) connection to set up the wireless network.
Selecting the display language English, French, German, Italian or Spanish may be selected for the display language. Select [Settings] from the Home menu. Settings menu appears. Select [Remote Control] – [Language]. The display for selecting the language appears. Select the desired language, and then press ENTER.
Setting the clock The time must be correctly set on the clock for the correct operation of some features. Do the procedure below to set the clock. Note The unit is factory set to start playing demonstration automatically if no operation is performed for about 60 seconds.
Cancelling automatic demonstration The display on the remote control is factory set to automatically light up and playback demonstration images when the power is turned off. Listening to the Internet radio You can listen to Internet radio broadcasts offered on the Web by Live365 and SHOUTcast on the unit. To listen to the Internet radio, your wireless router/wireless LAN access point has to be connected to the Internet. For details on connecting to the Internet, refer to the supplied leaflet “Setup Guide”, “Connecting the unit to your home network (network setting)”...
Playing audio data stored on a computer This unit can play audio data that is stored on a computer that supports the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) standards. Before playing audio data, the supplied VAIO Media plus software must be installed on your computer and the unit must be connected to the computer through a wireless LAN network (wireless router/wireless LAN access point).

If the standby mode is set to “Quick Start-up”, the track on the computer that was playing when the unit is turned off will start playing again when the unit is turned on again. (The standby mode is factory set to “Power Save”. To save the information of the last track played even when the unit is turned off, change the standby mode to “Quick Start-up”.

When “Disconnect from the current server. ” appears, select [OK]. The unit is disconnected from the server and a list of servers appears. The icon next to the server name indicates the server type. Transferring audio data from a disc to a USB device You can transfer audio data from an audio CD (CD-DA) or MP3 disc only. The amount of free space required on the USB device is about 1 MB per minute when transferring audio data from an audio CD.
Folder and file generation rules When first transferring audio data to the USB device, a “MUSIC” folder is created directly below the “ROOT” folder. Folders and files are generated within this “MUSIC” folder as follows. CD SYNC Source Folder name File name Same as the source* CD-DA...
Select [Record to USB]. A confirmation message appears and the USB device stands by for recording. Note It may take a while for the USB device to be ready for recording. Therefore, it is recommended that you allow enough time not to miss any recording opportunity, especially when recording from the tuner.
Setting the sound quality HOME BACK Selecting a sound style You can select the sound style from six preset equalizer settings to match the genre of music. Select [Settings] from the Home menu. Select [Sound] – [Sound Effects]. Select the sound style. You can select the style from [Standard]* [Dynamic], [Relax], [Vivid], [Live], or [Off].
Using the timer HOME BACK Using the Sleep Timer You can set the Sleep Timer so that the unit enters standby mode automatically after a certain period of time (Sleep Timer function). This function operates even if the clock is not set. Select [Settings] from the Home menu.
Using the Play Timer You can set the Play Timer to start playing a radio program, an iPod, a USB device, or a CD at a specified time (Play Timer function). Make sure you have set the clock. Prepare the sound source. Select the sound source (radio, iPod, USB device, or CD), and then press +/–...
Viewing the unit’s information You can view the various settings. To view the settings, do the following operation. HOME BACK Select [Settings] from the Home menu. Select [Device Information]. Changing the remote control settings HOME BACK Changing the display brightness You can change the brightness of the display on the remote control. Select [Settings] from the Home menu. Select [Remote Control] – [Brightness]. Set a brightness level of 1 to 5. The factory setting is level 3.
To set the backlight status when the remote control is not on the charger Select [Settings] from the Home menu. Select [Remote Control] – [Backlight Timer]. Select [Off-charger]. Select [30 seconds], [60 seconds]* [90 seconds]. The backlight turns off after the selected duration has elapsed.
Troubleshooting If a problem occurs while operating the unit, follow the steps described below before consulting your nearest Sony dealer. Precautions On safety Completely disconnect the power cord (mains lead) from the wall socket (mains) if it is not going to be used for an extended period of time. When unplugging the unit, always grip the plug. Never pull the cord itself.

Adjust the position of the holders of the Base Plate. Remove the screws that secure the left and right holders to the Base Plate and move the holders to the inner position. Secure the Base Plate to the wall using 4 or more 6 mm diameter or equivalent screws (not supplied). Select 4 screw holes with the mark shown in the diagram below and tighten the screws securely so that they will not become loose. Secure the Base Plate so that it is level.
