The ground supply lead must be connected to the wire attached to the green ground screw
located on the outlet box (see wiring diagrams). Failure to do so will result in a potential
safety hazard. The appliance must be electrically grounded in accordance with local codes
or, in the absence of local codes, the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70—latest
edition (in Canada, the current CSA C22.1 Canadian Electrical Code).
Label all wires prior to disconnection when servicing controls. Wiring errors can cause
improper and dangerous operation.

The gas valve is set in place and pre-wired at the factory for both millivolt and electronic models.
Millivolt Wiring
Millivolt units are not provided with factory-installed controls; therefore, one of the optional control switches is
required to operate the unit (Pages 62 and 63):

e. Slide the gear clamp down and tighten it fully to secure the fl exible vent to the adaptor outer collar
approximately 3/4" from the end of the fl exible vent.
f. Install three (3) screws 120° apart through the fl exible vent and into the adaptor collar just below the gear
clamp to provide additional security to the connection.
NOTE: Ensure that the fl exible vent is properly routed to provide the required clearance. Do NOT allow the fl exible vent
to bend in a radius tighter than 5" (127 mm) (Figure 30). Place the internal fl exible vent spacers evenly and avoid
kinking the inner vent. Support horizontal sections of fl exible vent with metal straps at 2 ft (0.61 m) intervals.

NOTE: Secure Flex
®
components can be purchased separately and attached to bulk lengths of Secure Flex fl exible
vent cut to size at the job site. Attach the fl exible vent to the Secure Flex terminations as it was attached to the
adaptor (Figure 29).
NOTE: Attach Secure Flex vent to Secure Flex terminations only. Do NOT substitute Secure Vent
or Secure Vent adaptor for Secure Flex components. Secure Flex termination and adaptor collars are a
different circumference than Secure Vent collars. Secure Flex vent has an longer center tube to improve
ease-of-installation.
