Configuring the PoS Module
Figure 3-18 shows an APS configuration that provides faster network recovery from
SONET line failures or degradations. Recovery is faster in this case because no routing
topology updates are needed. Recovery is isolated to the switch and ADM pair
connected to the failed line, and consists of performing an APS line switch operation.
The downside of the configuration shown in Figure 3-18, relative to Figure 3-17, is that
failure of a BlackDiamond switch will reduce the maximum SONET bandwidth by half.
Note that failure of an ADM will also halve the maximum available bandwidth in either
configuration.
