switchport mode
The switchport mode Interface Configuration mode command configures the VLAN membership mode of a port.
To return to the default configuration, use the no form of this command.
Syntax
switchport mode {access | trunk | general}
switchport mode private-vlan {promiscuous | community | isolated}
no switchport mode
Parameters
•
access — Indicates an untagged layer 2 VLAN port.
•
trunk — Indicates a trunking layer 2 VLAN port.
•
general — Indicates a full 802-1q supported VLAN port.
•
promiscuous — Indicates a promiscuous private-vlan port.
•
community — Indicates a community private-vlan port.
•
isolated — Indicates an isolated private-vlan port.
Default Configuration
All ports are in access mode, and belong to the default VLAN (whose VID=1).

User Guidelines
•
A port cannot be defined as promiscuous or isolated if it is a member of a VLAN.
•
If a port is defined as promiscuous or isolated, it is no longer a member of the default VLAN.
Example
The following example configures Ethernet port 3 as an untagged layer 2 VLAN port.
