Use the HP 8901B to measure distortion on either a 400 Hz or a 1 kHz
signal. Distortion measurements can be made on either the internally
demodulated signal or on an external audio signal connected to the
AUDIO INPUT port.

Measuring Audio Level
The HP 8901B is able to measure the rms voltage level of external
audio signals applied directly to the AUDIO INPUT port. (Audio level
measurements cannot be made on internally demodulated signals.)
