Lower V-Belt Replacement; Snow Auger Chain Replacement - Craftsman 842.240563 Owner's Manual

LOWER V-BELT REPLACEMENT
• Remove the Snow Thrower from the Tractor. (See
Snow Thrower removal in Storage section of this
manual)
• Remove the Upper V-Belt from the Snow Thrower.
(See Upper V-Belt Replacement In this manual)
• Remove the Drive Pulley Guard from the rear of the
Auger Housing.
• Lift upward on the Flat Idler Pulley and remove
Lower V-Belt from under it.
• Roll Lower V-Belt off of the Jack Shaft Pulley.
• Remove Cotter Pin and flat Washers from the Lift
Bar.
• Slide Lift Bar out of left side of Upper Mounting
Frame.
• Roll Lower V-Belt off of lower Pulley and remove it
from the Snow Thrower.
• Assemble new Lower V-Belt around lower Pulley.
• Reassemble Lift Bar to the Upper Mounting Frame
and secure with Flat Washers and Cotter Pin.
NOTE: Lower V-Belt should be assembled so that the
strand of V-Belt coming off the top of the Jack Shaft
Pu~ey
should go to the left side of the lower Pulley and
the strand of V-Belt that comes off the bottom of the
Jack Shaft Pulley goes to the right side of the lower
PUlley.
• Roll the Lower V-Belt around the Jack Shaft Pulley.
• Lift up on Flat Idler Pulley and place top strand of
Lower V-Belt under it.
• Reassemble Drive Pulley Guard to the Rear of the
Auger Housing.
• Reassemble Upper V-Belt to Snow Thrower,
following Upper V-Belt replacement.
• Reinstall Snow Thrower to Tractor.
NOTE: AJways check V-Belt Tension and adjust if
required after assembling new V-Belts.
SNOW AUGER CHAIN REPLACEMENT
• Loosen the Mounting Nut on the right side of the
Jackshaft two full turns.
• Loosen the Mounting Nut on the left side of the
Jackshaft until two threads remain in the Nut.
• Roll Snow Auger Chain off of Jackshaft Sprocket.
• Remove Chain Guards from· both ends of the Auger
Housing.
• Remove two 1/2" Bolts and two internal tooth
lockwashers from Snow Auger (one set from each
side).
• Pull Snow Auger forward out of Auger Housing,.
NOTE: When removing Snow Auger from Auger Housing
keep track of how many Flat Washers are on each side
and reassemble in the same order.
• Remove and discard old Snow Auger Chain.
• Assemble new Snow Auger Chain onto the sprocket
of the Snow Auger.
• Place Snow Auger in front of Auger Housing. making
sure that notches in Snow Auger Shaft fit into Snow
Auger Mounting Plate assembled to the inside (left) of
the Auger Housing.
• Reassemble & secure tightly one 1/2" bolt & internal
tooth lockwasher to each side of Auger Housing &
Snow Auger Shaft.
• Pull Snow Auger Chain through slot in back of Auger
Housing & roll it over Jackshaft Sprocket.
• Check & follow Snow Auger Chain Adjustment.
