UPPER V-BELT ADJUSTMENT
(TRACTORS EQUIPPED WITH
VERTICAL CRANK SHAFT ENGINES
ONLY)
CAUTION
A NO ADJUSTMENTS TO THE BELT DRIVES
OR AUGER CHAIN SHOULD BE MADE
wrn-tOUT SHUTTING OFF THE TRACTOR
I;NGINE AND REMOVING THE SPARK
PLUG W1RE(s) FROM THE SPARK
PLUG(s).
TO CHECK UPPER V-BELT TENSION
• Shut off tractor and remove ignition key.
• Remove spark plug wire(s) from spark plug(s).
• Place Snow Thrower on ground level.
• Check Belt Gage Run Indicator to determine how
to adjust V-Belt. .
• If Belt Gage Run Indicator is totally inside Upper
Mounting Frame, V-Belt Tension is too loose and
must be adjusted to tighten.
• If Belt Gage Run Indicator is totally outside Upper
Mounting Frame, V-Belt Tension is too tight and
must be adjusted to loosen.
TO TIGHTEN UPPER V-BELT TENSION
• Loosen two nuts and one bolt.
• Loosen jam nut several full turns.
• Tighten bolt until Belt Gage Run Indicator is within
Upper Mounting Frame.
• Retighten jam nut against frame.
• Retighten two nuts and one bolt.
• Recheck Belt Gage Run Indicator to make sure it
stays within Upper Mounting Frame after securing
double pulley.
TO LOOSEN UPPER V-BELT TENSION
•
Loosen two nuts and one bolt.
•
Loosen jam nut 1/4 turn.
•
Loosen bolt until belt Gage Run Indicator is within
•
Upper Mounting Frame.
Retighten jam nut against frame.
•
Retighten two nuts and one bolt.
•
Recheck Belt Gage Run Indicator to make sure it
stays within Upper Mounting Frame after securing
double pulley.
NOTE: When adjusting V-Belt always set Belt Gage Run
Indicator to maximum tension. This will allow V[Belt to
stretch and give a longer operating time without
readjustment.
• After upper V-Belt Adjustment Is made check lower
V-Belt Run Indicator and adjust If necessary. (See
lower V-Belt Adjustment)
• Replace spark plug Wlre(s) and resume snow
removal.
REPLACE UPPER V-BELT
o
Release tension on Idler arm.
o
R~move
spring from chain
&
toggle.
o
Pivot
th~
pulley end of the Clutching Idler Arm to the
left, pulling the Belt Gage Run Indicator inside of the
Upper Mounting Frame.
o
Remove old V-belt.
o
Place new Upper V-belt around Upper pulley and
extend loop of Belt forward.
o
Slide the right side of the Upper V-belt under Flat Idler
pulley and up on the inside of it.
o

and end of the Clutching Idler Arm to
the right, plaCing the Belt Gage Run Indicator through
the Upper Mounting Frame.
o
Reassemble Spring to Chain & Toggle.
o
Check Upper V-belt tension and adjust if necessary.
