Engineering — Network Design, NN46205-200 for Release 7.2.

Avaya VENA Unified Access

Avaya VENA Unified Access introduces a new wireless solution in which the control and data
forwarding functions are split and implemented in the most logical and cost effective place in the
network. This solution requires a combination of WLAN 8100 Release 2.0 and ERS 8800/8600
Release 7.2.
• Control operations such as managing APs are still performed by the WLAN 8100 Controller,
which is referred to as the Wireless Control Point (WCP)
• Data forwarding functions are now implemented in the ERS 8800/8600, which is referred to as
the Wireless Switching Point (WSP).
Splitting the control and data forwarding functions results in improved performance, scalability,
reliability, and resiliency relative to traditional WLAN overlay models. This is because the solution
leverages the wired infrastructure to forward WLAN data as well.
Note:
It is important to note that the Unified Access solution does not impact any traditional WLAN
services such as E911, Ekahau location, Site Survey, RF resiliency, Voice over WLAN, Captive
Portal, ID Engine Guest Portal, and wireless intrusion detection and prevention systems (WIDS/
WIPS).

IP Multicast over SPBM

Today's networks either have inefficient bridged IP Multicast networks (IGMP) or IP Multicast
networks that require multiple protocols that are complex to configure and operate. Release 7.2 of
