Hot-replacing a memory card
V
CAUTION!
Hot-replace during system operation is only possible if the memory cards
are in a redundant configuration in BIOS setup. This means they must be
in memory mirroring mode (see "Memory mirroring" on page 114).
Complete the following steps to hot-replace a memory card in the server:
Ê Slide the server out of the rack until the slide rails lock into place.
Ê Remove the cover from the server (see "Removing the Cover" on page 108).
Ê Make sure the memory hot-swap enabled LED is lit on the top of the memory
card to be replaced (see figure 27). If the LED is not lit, enable memory
mirroring in BIOS setup (see "Active Memory" on page 114).
Ê Prepare the memory card:
Ê Touch the static-protective package that contains the memory card to
any unpainted surface on the outside of the server; then, remove the
memory card from the package.
Ê Place the memory card on a flat, static-protected surface with the DIMM
connectors facing up.
Ê Install DIMMs in the memory card (see the Options Guide for this
procedure).
Ê Remove the memory card from the server (see figure 28 on page 119):
V
CAUTION!
When moving the memory card, do not allow it to touch any compo-
nents or structures inside the server.
Ê Open the retention levers on the edge of the memory card (first, the big
one, then, the small one).
Ê Lift the memory card out of the server.
