Use the Microsoft Windows operating system ScanDisk program to correct any errors found
in the directory and File Allocation Table (FAT). This also frees up space from any unused
sectors.

Never turn the notebook off when the hard drive is being accessed.
n Use a hard drive maintenance program like the Microsoft Windows operating system
DEFRAG program to eliminate fragmentation and improve the hard drive access time.

Maintaining the Primary Battery

Periodically inspect the primary battery terminals and the battery for evidence of corrosion and
oxide build-up.
Observe the following precautions when handling the primary battery (and optional secondary
battery, if used).
n Do not drop the battery or subject it to excessive shock and vibration.

Do not expose the battery to direct sunlight, moisture, chemical compounds, or extreme
heat.
n Do not disassemble the battery.
n Do not use the battery to power other devices.
n Never attempt to charge the battery in any way other than as described in this manual and
the user's guide.

Always charge the battery as soon as possible after a low battery indication.
