Setting the Reference for Smart Remote Mode

Turn on both testers and let them sit for 5 minutes.
Allow additional time if the modules have been stored
above or below ambient temperature.

Turn the rotary switch to SETUP, then select Fiber Loss.

Select Remote End Setup, then select Smart Remote.

Turn the rotary switch to SPECIAL FUNCTIONS, then
select Set Reference. If both a fiber module and a
twisted pair or coaxial adapter are attached, select
Fiber Module next.

Clean and inspect the connectors on the tester, smart
remote, and test reference cords. Connect the tester
and smart remote as shown on the tester.
The Set Reference screen shows reference
connections for the selected test method. Figure
Figure 8-9 shows connections for the 1 Jumper
method.
The test reference cords in the tester's diagrams
are numbered. If you want to meet TIA reporting

requirements, you can enter lengths for each test
reference cord number after setting the reference.

The View Reference screen shows the reference values
and the date and time the reference was set.

The View Connections screen shows the test
connections for the selected test method.
10 To enter test reference cord lengths to meet TIA
reporting requirements, press
11 On the Patch Lengths screen, enter the lengths of the
test reference cords. Press

Do not disconnect the test reference cords from
the tester's or smart remote's output port after
setting the reference. If you do, you must set the
reference again to ensure valid measurements.
