3.6. Waterproof Microphone Unit: NVT-162 (Option)

3.6.1. Selection of mounting location
Waterproof Microphone Units collect conversations about controlling the ship and other voices through
the public addressor in the wing. The locations of Waterproof Microphone Units should be carefully
selected so that they can collect vital voice communications. The selected locations should meet the
following conditions.
3.6.1.1. Recommended Location
Although the number of waterproof microphones needed depends on the wing width, in most cases,
the wings can be covered by two waterproof microphones. The following is the recommended
location for mounting waterproof microphones.
1) The overhead panel nears the talkback equipment.
3.6.1.2. Note on selection
Consider the followings when selecting a location for mounting a Waterproof Microphone Unit.
Waterproof microphones can collect conversations within a radius of 2.5m. Any obstacles or
sources of noise (60dB or more) should be kept out of this range.
1) The waterproof microphone unit should be away from any ventilator or draft.
2) The waterproof microphone unit should be away from electric apparatuses such as the RADAR,
radio communication equipment, and so on that may emit an excessive electromagnetic field.
3) The waterproof microphone unit should be free from excessive vibrations.
4) The waterproof microphone unit should be in a compass safety distance of 0.4m.
3.6.2. Fastening a Waterproof Microphone Unit
Mount a Waterproof Microphone Unit on a bulkhead in a wing. The unit has 2 holes (φ10mm) on its
sides. Insert M8 steel bolts in them and fasten the unit with them.
It has a label for the unit number on it. Confirm the location of the label and make sure that the unit
number on the label is equal to what is written in the instruction drawing.
