Dry sump lubrication
On vehicles with dry sump lubrication, the engine oil is
carried a separate oil reservoir and pumped to the
lubrication points in the engine by the oil pressure
pump which operates according to requirements.
The engine oil which drips off is pumped back into the
oil reservoir by two oil suction pumps, each with four
suction stages.
The oil suction pump has a greater delivery rate than
the oil pressure pump so that the engine oil can be reli-
ably pumped out of the crankcase and back into the oil
reservoir in every driving situation, thus ensuring that
the engine is sufficiently lubricated.

Advantages of dry sump lubrication:
• Improved cooling due to greater volume of engine
oil
• Constant oil pressure/lubrication during cornering
• Lower center of gravity resulting in improved
vehicle handling due to engine being installed
lower
• Improved load distribution due to separate oil
reservoir

Observe the description in WIS with respect to
engine replacement.
