Double clutch

The wet double clutch is located in the transmission
and transfers the torque of the engine to whichever of
the two subtransmissions is currently in use. The
clutches are actuated hydraulically and have a
"normally open" design i.e. the clutch is open in the
normal condition.
The double clutch has the following functions:
• Disconnect and connect the power flow between
engine and transmission
• Transfer the engine torque to one of the two
subtransmissions
• Starting off (including for the RACESTART function)
and rapid gear shifting without interruption of
tractive power

The two clutches of the double clutch have the
following specific tasks:
• Clutch 1 (outer clutch)
Gear shifting and torque transfer
in 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th gear
• Clutch 2 (inner clutch) Connect power flow, gear
shifting and torque transfer
in 2nd, 4th, 6th. and reverse gear
The torque is transferred by two multidisk clutches.
Clutch 1 has 6 steel disks and 5 friction disks.
Clutch 2 has 5 steel disks and 6 friction disks.
