The new A-Class is available with the newly devel-
oped 7-speed automatic dual clutch transmission
(7G-DCT automatic transmission). It supersedes
the previous "AUTOTRONIC" CVT transmission
(Continuously Variable Transmission). For the
A 180 CDI with the OM 651/80 kW engine, only the
automatic transmission is available.
This automated three-shaft transmission, which
consists of two sub-transmissions each with its own
clutch, features seven forward gears and one
reverse gear. Clutch operation and gear changes
take place on a fully automatic basis.
The 7G-DCT is characterized by rapid gear changes
without interruption of tractive power and improved
efficiency. It provides sporty vehicle dynamics while
also offering the convenience of an automatic
transmission.

Due to the torque being transferred and the associ-
ated heat development at the multidisk clutch,
cooling takes place through an active oil cooling
system.
When the start/stop function is active (engine off),
the electric auxiliary oil pump supplies the shift
elements and actuators of the electrohydraulic
transmission control system with hydraulic oil.
i Note
Further information about the automatic transmis-
sion can be found in the "New Automatic Trans-
mission System Description".
