Climate control

Also used in the new A-Class is the modular
designed climate-control concept with new oper-
ating units in a revised design as previously intro-
duced in the B-Class (model 246).
The THERMATIC air-conditioning system is fitted as
standard in the A-Class. The THERMOTRONIC
comfort automatic air conditioning is available as
special equipment.
Moisture and temperature sensor
The new A-Class is now available with a vehicle
interior moisture and temperature sensor,
which is integrated into the cover of the inside rear-
view mirror base. The sensor measures the relative
temperature and air moisture on the inside of the
windshield and uses this to determine the dew
point temperature. If there is a risk of fogging
corresponding measures are authorized such as,
e.g. switching on the A/C compressor or forcing
the engine to start for the ECO start/stop function.

A/C operation for ECO start/stop function
The A/C prevents the engine from stopping until
the preselected interior temperature is reached. If
in subsequent stops the interior temperature rise
beyond the preselected value, the request for the
A/C system to forcibly start the engine is
dispensed with to save energy and the A/C
compressor is not activated (except when fogging
may occur). As a consequence, during the stop
period there may be a reduction in cooling output
with a warm outside temperature. If this is not
desired, the ECO start/stop function must be deac-
tivated by pressing the "ECO Off" button.
