ANTENNAS WITHIN ONE METER (3 FT.) OF ANY METAL
OBSTRUCTIONS. THE RF WAVES FROM Nortel Networks
WLAN Access Port 2230/2231 or Nortel Networks WLAN — Access
Ports (2232) ARE BLOCKED AND/OR REFLECTED BY METAL
OBJECTS, such as metal HVAC ducts, conduit, pipes, bookcases,
elevator shafts, stairwells, and metal walls. REFER TO THE Nortel
WLAN — Access Port (223x) Deployment Guide BEFORE
MOUNTING WLAN — Access Ports (223x) NEAR METAL
OBSTRUCTIONS.
• WHEN MOUNTING WLAN — Access Ports (223x) IN THE
CORNER OF A RIGHT-ANGLE HALLWAY INTERSECTION,
MOUNT THE WLAN — Access Port (223x) AT A 45-DEGREE
ANGLE TO THE TWO HALLWAYS. The WLAN — Access Port
(223x) internal antennas are not omnidirectional, and cover a larger
area if mounted this way.
• External antennas are NOT to be used when installing WLAN — Access Ports (223x) and Nortel WLAN —
Access Port (223x) in a plenum.
• ENSURE that plenum-mounted WLAN — Access Ports (223x) and Nortel WLAN — Access Port (223x) are
powered using Power Over Ethernet (POE) and use only the metal brackets (not the Ceiling-Mount Base or the
Hanging-Ceiling Clips) to comply with safety regulations.
• DO NOT MOUNT WLAN — Access Ports (223x) OUTSIDE BUILDINGS.
• DO NOT MOUNT WLAN — Access Ports (223x) ON BUILDING PERIMETER WALLS UNLESS THE
OPERATOR WANTS TO PROVIDE COVERAGE OUTSIDE THE BUILDING.
Intentional radiators
Intentional radiators, such as Nortel WLAN — Access Ports (223x) and Mobile Adaptors are not intended to be operated
with any antenna(s) other than those furnished by Nortel. An intentional radiator may only be operated with the
antenna(s) with which it is authorized. For a complete listing of the authorized antennas for use with this product, visit

In order to ensure continued compliance, use of an antenna not on the Nortel approved antenna list is not allowed
without specific authorization from Nortel . For additional questions or inquiries regarding specific antennas contact

Use of an antenna not specifically authorized by Nortel may not comply with local regulatory requirements with respect
to radiated emission limits and may result in illegal operation of the product. The installer of the wireless system and
associated antenna is required to ensure that only those antennas on the Nortel approved antenna list or those antennas
specifically approved by Nortel on a case by case basis are deployed with the intentional radiator.
Please be sure to associate the appropriate antenna model number and localized regulatory region when selecting the
Nortel authorized antenna(s).
