When the oven controls are set to Clean, the oven heatsto temperaturesthat are higher
than those used for cooking. The high temperaturescause food soil to bum off and
substantially disappear. While thisoccurs,a device in the ovenvent helpsto consume
normalamountsofsmoke. The oven is ventedthroughan openingunder the air grille
on the top of the range.
• Remove the broiler pan and grid and any other utensilsfrom the oven. These
utensilscannotwithstandthe high temperaturesof the cleaningprocess.
• The oven rackscan be cleaned inthe oven. However,the oven rackswilldiscolor,
lose shininess,and become difficult to slidein and out if left in the oven duringthe
cleaning process. REMOVE RACKS FROM OVEN IF THIS DISCOLORATION
WILL BE OBJECTIONABLE. As a suggestion,do not leavethe racksin the oven
dudngeachself-cleaningprocessif they do not need to be cleaned sincethey will
discolor to a dullsilverafterone cleaning. Moderatelysoiledracks can be cleaned
with a soapy S.O.S. pad or Scotch-Bdtescourpad. Stubbornstains need to be
removedinthe self-cleaning process.Be sureto read specialtipson page43 ifoven
racksare cleaned duringthe self-cleaningprocess.
• Clean spattersand spillsfrom thoseareaswhichwill not becleanedduringtheserf-
cleaning process:
- center front of oven and door near openingin door gasket.
- pomelainoven door liner (area outsidethe door gasket).
- oven frontframe.
Note; DO NOT CLEAN serial plate located on the oven front.
To clean these areas, use hot water and
detergent,nonabrasivecleansersor soapfilled _ _ f _
steelwoolpads.Rinsethoroughly, beingcareful __
not to use an excessiveamountof water that _ • _ ,
would dampen the door gasket. Soil left in
these areas will be more difficult to remove
after the serf-cleaning process since the high
heat will bake on any soil that is present. DO
NOT USE COMMERCIAL OVEN CLEANERS
TO CLEAN THESE AREAS.
• DO NOT A'I-rEMPT TO CLEAN, RUB, OR APPLYWATER TO GASKET ON OVEN
DOOR. The gasket is essentialfor a good door seal. Rubbingor cleaning will
damage the gasketand may affect the seal.
