Instrumentation and Controls
This system may not work with
some older garage door openers.
Do not use this system with any
garage door opener that does not
have a "stop and reverse" feature.
Make sure to save the original
hand-held transmitter in case you
ever need to erase or reprogram
the system.
If you ever sell your vehicle, be sure
to erase the programmed buttons.
See "Erasing Universal Transmitter
Buttons" later in this section.

PROGRAMMING THE
TRANSMITTER
Make sure that no people or
objects are in the path of the
garage door or other device you
are programming.
If you are programming a garage
door, it is recommended that you
park the vehicle outside the
garage.
For quicker and more accurate
transmission of the radio frequen-
cy, install a new battery in your
hand-held transmitter.
Determining the Code Type
Some older garage door openers
are fixed code transmitters.
The same signal is sent each time
the button is pressed.
If the device operates with a fixed
code, there will be a series of
switches present when you
remove the battery compartment
cover.
An example of the switches is
shown above.
The motor head unit for a garage
door opener may also have a set of
switches.
These switches can be used to
program the device in the event
that the original hand-held
transmitter is lost.
See the following, later in this
section, for information:
• Fixed Code Transmitters
