Chapter 8 Connecting to External Devices — Connection function via <USB2.0 DEVICE> or <USB3.0 HOST> terminal

Switching to the USB host mode

Connect the storage device to the <USB3.0 HOST> terminal. (Fig. 1)
f When connecting a storage device which supports USB 3.0, use a cable that conforms to the USB 3.0 standard.
f When a USB 2.0 cable is used, the transfer rates cannot be faster than the ability of USB 2.0.
f If the storage device is recognized and is usable,

Set to [STORAGE] in the main menu → [NETWORK SETUP] → [USB MODE SELECT]. (Fig. 2)

Set [ON] in the main menu → [NETWORK SETUP] → [USB MODE]. (Fig. 3)
f The camera is switched to the USB host mode.
f While in USB host mode, [USB STORAGE CONNECTED] is displayed in the center of the viewfinder or LCD monitor. If hard disk drive is not
connected properly, [USB STORAGE DISCONNECTED] is displayed.

Press the <THUMBNAIL> button.
f The thumbnail screen is displayed.
f Ensure that [USB] is displayed at the top right of the screen.
f If a storage device is connected, the icon that indicates storage device status at the top right illuminates. However, a red mark indicates that the
device cannot be used.

Exit the USB host mode.
There are two methods:
f Turn the power switch of the camera to <OFF>.
f With the thumbnail screen closed, set [OFF] in the main menu → [NETWORK SETUP] → [USB MODE].
f Press the USER button to which [USB MODE] has been assigned. Note that this is disabled when a menu or thumbnail is open.

NOTE
t In USB host mode, a P2 card can be played back. Camera image and external input cannot be recorded.
Clips written to the hard disk drive cannot be played back on the camera.
t A storage device cannot be connected to the <USB2.0 HOST> terminal (page 20).
t While connecting a storage device, use the fully charged battery or connect an AC adaptor to the camera to avoid problems in copying or formatting
operations.
t The <USB3.0 HOST> terminal also supports USB bus power (5 V, 0.9 A). However, there are certain devices that cannot run depending on the
storage device used. In such cases, add a separate power supply to the storage device.
t Some storage devices may not function properly depending on the storage device and cable used.
t Do not connect multiple storage devices using a hub even if the storage devices are turned off. Do not connect other devices together with your
storage device using a hub.
t During a format or copy operation, do not unplug the cable, eject the target P2 card, or turn off the camera or the storage device. Rebooting the
camera and the storage device is required.
t A storage device with the SATA (Serial ATA) or PATA (Parallel ATA) interface connected using a USB conversion cable may not be recognized.
t Do not connect or disconnect the cable during playback on the camera. Playback may not be performed properly.
