Break-in procedure

New ATV's and renewed ATV en-
gines require a „break-in" period.
The first month is most critical to
the life of this ATV. Proper opera-
tion during this break-in period will
help assure maximum life and per-
formance from the ATV.
During the first 10 hours of opera-
tion, always use less than _ throt-
tle. Varying the engine RPM during
the break-in period aids the engine/
transmission
component
process. Although it is essential to
place some stress on the engine
components during break-in, care
should be taken not to overload
the engine too often. Do not pull a
trailer during the break-in period.
When the engine starts, allow it to
warm up properly. Idle the engine
several minutes until the engine
has
reached
normal
temperature. Do not idle the engine

for excessively long periods of
time.
During the break-in period, you
should not use more than throttle.
Short acceleration maneuvers and
riding at different velocities provide
an optimum break-in of the engine
During the break-in period you
must also burnish brake pads
(hydraulic brake) to achieve full
mating
braking effectiveness. To properly
burnish the brakes, use the follow-
ing procedure:
BRAKE BURNISHING PROCEURE:
The main brake is activated by
the foot pedal (according to direc-
tive 93/14A EC homologation).
The hand lever activates only the
parking/auxiliary brake which must
operating
not be used as service brake.
For off road use, there is the
34
possibility to exchange the brake
circuits - thus, the service brake is
activated by the hand lever.
For this purpose an appropriate
conversion kit is available. For more
details, please ask your dealer.
!! IMPORTANT !!
For perfect brake efficiency you
have to burnish the brake pads.
To do so, please follow the instruc-
tions below:
1. Choose an area sufficiently large
to safely accelerate your ATV to 30
km/h.
2. Accelerate to 30 km/h, then com-
press brake lever to decelerate to 0
– 5 km/h.
3. Repeat this procedure approx.
20 times until brakes are heated
up.
