TEST PROCEDURE

6.01
See figures 1 and 2 for cable connections. If testing a board set then plug the 2
pin connector of unit under test (UUT) power cable, 405–733–607, into the power
connector on the back of the RF board. If testing a serial box then plug the serial
box power cable, 405–733–613, into the power connector of the serial box and set
the serial box's power switch to the upward '1' position.
6.02
If testing a board set then place it onto the Penn Reader Board Set Holder,
405–733–501 as shown in figure 1. Verify that all 5 of the dip switches are pushed
to the left (Penn Reader only) and that the jumper on the DSP board is set correct-
ly (figure 1).
6.03
Plug in the Serial and GPIO cables and then the 4 Antenna cables. Be sure that
these are in the correct order (1 thru 4). Note also that these are reverse threaded
except on Sharp/Japan units.
To test the unit, click on the button labeled 'Test UUT'.
6.04
6.05
A window will appear entitled "Enter Serial Number – First Read". Use the barcode
scanner or keyboard to enter the serial number of the UUT. This is located on the
label of the board set or serial box. Note that you will be asked to enter the serial
number twice to ensure accuracy.
6.06
Another window will appear entitled "Enter Configuration Number – First Read".
Use the barcode scanner or keyboard to enter the Configuration Number of the
UUT. This is also located on the label of the board set or serial box (ITRM...).
Note again that you will be asked to enter this twice to ensure accuracy.
6.07
Testing of the UUT will now begin. The test status will be shown in the test status
window, 'Sequence Display', on the main test screen (see figure 3). As each test is
run it will be highlighted, after which its Pass/Fail result will be displayed. Note that
some of the tests may be skipped. This depends upon the test environment and type
of reader. Many of the messages that the test program displays will be shown in the
bottom half of the screen in the Standard I/O window.
6.08
If testing the board set then during the RS–422 Port Test (Penn Reader only) you will
be asked to set the dip switches (figure 1) and the A/B switch of the test station. You
may use the angled bracket, 405–733–710, for pushing the dip switches. The only
other time that operator intervention is required is during the LEDs Test where you
will need to verify that the LEDs of the UUT are working properly.
6.09
If a test fails then the program will ask whether or not you want to retry the test.
Verify that all connections are properly made and then retry the test one time by
clicking on the Retry button. If it passes the second time then continue on. If it
fails a second time then stop testing by clicking on the Abort button and fail the
unit.
6.010 After all test steps are completed and the unit has passed, a green PASSED win-
dow will be displayed. The unit may now be disconnected from the test cables.
