Common Errors

Prints come out blurry.
This is often caused by a head misalignment or insufficient ink drying time. First consult
the print samples binder or the test prints in the S70670 drawer under the light booth
to see if the the quality is as expected. If not, first try performing a head alignment,
print another test, and then if necessary change the drying time per head pass in the
Media Selection > Customize Settings section of the printer controls.
"Media Sensor Error" control panel message.
This can happen during auto head alignments or feed adjustments, and possibly while
loading a new roll. The media sensors are located on the print head and are used to
determine roll width and read patterns printed by the auto alignment features. The
sensors can be confused by room lighting, so first try closing the blinds and turning off
the overhead lights. If this does not work, wipe down the media sensors with swabs
and fluid, for instructions see the Head Cleaning section on page 16 of this guide.
Horizontal scratches appear on print (head strikes).
Scratches, or short lines of ink appearing on your print are caused by the head striking
the media as it passes over the roll. This is not uncommon and can happen during
printing or any time the print head moves across the media.
If you are printing with thicker media, increase the platen gap in the Media Selection
> Customize Settings section of the printer controls.
If your media is wavy inside of the printer, try releasing the rollers and straightening
the roll so the media does not bunch up. If it is still not flat, use the take-up reel and
tension bar to keep the media flatter.
If the media is flat and head strikes appear, the print head may be dirty with built-up
ink. Move the print head and clean it according to the Head Cleaning instructions on
page 16 of this guide.
"Media mismatch" status messages in Onyx RIP Queue.
The media mode selected in Layout does not match the current printer configuration.
In the printer status section of RIP Queue select ‟Change...‟ from the Current Media
and Placement section. Select the media mode and roll size that matches your settings
from Layout.
"Wait for media: Size" status messages in Onyx RIP Queue.
Either the dimensions of the job you are sending exceeds the roll width of the current
media setup for the printer, or the wrong roll width is selected in either Layout or RIP
