Removing and replacing a FRU
• System board without IBM security chip
Begin by checking the F R U number of the system board,
and be sure to use the correct system board F R U for the
computer. For the F R U numbers, see "Parts l i s t " on page
134.
Im p o rta n t
I f the ThinkPad computer you are servicing has the
security chip, mind the following:
• D o n o t re m o v e th e s e c u rity c h ip fro m th e
sy s te m b o a rd . I f the security chip is removed by
accident, reinstall i t on the system board
immediately. Then m a k e sure that i t is firmly fixed
on the system board and does not m o v e easily.
• The security chip c a n n o t be used with any other
system board.
• The system board c a n n o t be used with other
security chip.
• The system board c a n n o t be used without the
security chip.
• W h e n you return the defective system board
FRU, you must check whether the security chip i s
firmly attached to the system board. I f i t is not
embedded, i t m a y not be covered under warranty.
