This chapter introduces the main features and applications of the Switch.
1.1 Introduction
The Switch is a stand-alone layer-2 VDSL over Ethernet switch with two Telco-50 connectors for
VDSL and POTS connections. The switch also comes with one 10/100Base-TX Ethernet
management port, two Gigabit/mini-GBIC uplink ports and a console management port.
With its built-in Web Configurator, managing and configuring the Switch is easy. In addition, the
Switch can also be managed via Telnet, any terminal emulator program on the console port, or
third-party SNMP management.

This section shows a few examples of using the Switch in various network environments.
1.2 Applications
These are the main applications for the switch:
• Internet access and multimedia services for Multiple Tenant Units (MTU).
• Other applications include telemedicine, surveillance systems, remote servers systems, cellular
base stations and high-quality teleconferencing.
