I
ICS (imaging control system). A system that controls the eight LED writing heads.
Imaging. A Properties window option used to change image settings, such as copy count and data depth.
imposition. The process of arranging pages on a press sheet to ensure proper order during final
cutting/folding/binding. Electronic imposition builds press sheets automatically in the RIP and outputs film formatted for
immediate use in platemaking. Electronic imposition is very machine-intensive and is used only when maximum speed
and throughput are required. Also changes required rerunning an entire press sheet
INC (instrumentation control system). A system that controls the operation of all the electromechanical and
electronic modules in the print engine.
ini file. A file in which page setup settings are stored.
Initialized engine state. During this engine state, the microcontrollers are being initialized prior to power-on state.
interpretation and rendering. The two phases of RIPing a job.
J
Job type. A page-setup parameter used to specify whether a job is a master, variable data file (VDF), or test job.
K
KB. Kilobyte or 1 024 bytes of data.
L
Layout. A Properties window option used to specify the sheet and signature layout settings for a job.
LDA (light emitting diode array). The imaging device for the electrophotographic print units.
LED (light emitting diode). The imaging device element for the electrophotographic print units.
Load paper settings. A step in the Mount Paper Roll window that highlights after a new paper roll is mounted and
the Done pushbutton is clicked. When the Done pushbutton is clicked again, the Run Script window opens, where the
correct setting for the newly mounted paper roll can be specified.
log file. A file in which operational errors and messages are automatically stored. These messages can help a
service representative debug problems.
loupe. A small magnifier used to check printed documents for correct registration.
lpi (lines per inch). In computer graphics some screening algorithms use equally spaced lines to print images. This
is the line spacing used.
M
main-charge scorotron. A type of corona that contains a grid. Charges the surface of the drum to a negative
uniform potential. Each print unit has a main-charge scorotron.
main power. The power that runs the printer when the switch, located in the fixed tower, is turned to the ON position.
main switch. The switch, located in the fixed tower, that is used to turn on the printer.
Manual Control. A setting in the Paper and Engine Conditioning window used to specify that tower conditioning be
