Getting Started With Switch Configuration

This chapter is a guide for using the command line interface (CLI) via a direct
console to quickly assign an IP address and subnet mask to the switch, set a
Manager password, and, optionally, configure other basic features.
Topics covered in this chapter include:

Many other features can be configured through the CLI to optimize the
switch's performance, enhance your control of network traffic, and improve
security. Once an IP address has been configured on the switch, these features
can be accessed more conveniently through a remote Telnet session. For more
information, refer to the Management and Configuration Guide which is on
the Documentation CD-ROM that came with your switch.

Booting Up and Accessing the CLI

1. Connect a terminal device to the switch as described on
