5. Consider the following

Interfering factors

The following factors will interfere the sensor´s ability to detect correctly. In order to get
the detection performance as good as possible, the following factors should be avoided.
- Dark or fleecy clothes at night
In dark conditions the detection is done with the assistance of infra red light. Some
clothes, mainly dark or fleecy, absorbs this type of light, which will result in a lower detec-
tion performance.
- TV
The sensor contains optics and is therefore sensitive to significant light changes. The
performance will be lower if there is a TV set turned on and close to the bed. It is recom-
mended to place the TV further than 1,5 m from the bed at the same time as the sensor is
activated.
- Objects blocking the patient
In order to detect when
the patient leaves the bed,
it is important that there
are no obstacles between
the patient and the sensor.
Even a small piece of fur-
niture that only blocks the
patient to a certain extent
will decrease the detection
performance.
A large bedside table close to the bed will block the field of
view for the sensor and the detection performance will be
decreased.
