11 OUTPUT & CONTROL MODES

11.1 OUTPUT MODES

In many ways, it would not be incorrect to think of your NewTek 3Play™ system as not just one,
but two conjoined playout devices. The system features two independent audio/video output
sections – Output A, and Output B.
Figure 103
Each output is capable of functioning completely independently of the other, and either can be
directed to transmit any available audio/video source, whether live or recorded.
Physically, the main video outputs (along with their corresponding audio connections) appear on
the system's backplate for connection to downstream devices as output 1 (3Play's Output A) and
2 (Output B). During live production, both are represented on the Replay Desktop by individual
output monitors (Figure 103).
An understanding of the NewTek 3Play™ system's Control and
Output Modes is fundamental to its operation. A review of these
concepts provides the foundation for understanding the system
and its workflow.
For that reason, we'll consider them right away, before proceeding
to examine other features and operations.
