CHARGING SYSTEM
-
Service Adiustment
Procedures
REGULATED VOLTAGE
TEST
Voltmeter
This
test determines whether the voltage regulator
is
correctly controlling
the
voltage.
PREPARATION
(1)
Check
the following
before testing. Repair if
required.
(a)
Check
that the battery is fully
charged.
(b) Check alternator drive belt tension.
(See
GROUP 11
-
Engine Adjustment.)
Turn ignition switch
OFF.
Remove battery earth
cable
Connect digital voltmeter between alternator
"L"
terininal
or
"S"
terminal and earth.
Use
special
tool
and connect voltmeter (+
)
lead
wire
to
"L" or
"S" terminal. Connect
{-)
lead
wire
to
good earth
or
battery
(-)
terminal.
Remove alternator outlet line
from
alternator
"8"
terminal.
Connect
0-1004 test
DC ammeter
to
"8"
terminal
and
removed
outlet line
in
series.
Connect ammeter (+
)
lead wire
to "B" terminal
and
(-)
lead
wire
to
removed
outlet
line.
Set engine
tachometer.
Connect battery earth
cable.
TEST
(1) Turn ignition switch ON.
Check
that the voltm-
eter
indicates
the following
value:
Voltage:
2-5V......
..
"l:
terminal
Battery
voltage
'S'terminal
0V
is
caused
by
disconnected
wire
between
alternator "L" terminal, or between "S" terminal
and battery (+ ),
or
blown fusible
link.

Start engine. All lamps and accessories should

at about
2500 r/min.

voltmeter value when alternator output current
falls below
10A.
RESULT
(1) When voltage matches the voltage
adjusting
table, voltage regulator operation
is
correct.
Either voltage regulator
or alternator is
defec-
tive if voltage value is not within the
standard
value.

After test, drop
engine speed
to
idle.
Turn
ignition switch
OFF.
Remove battery earth
cable.
Remove voltmeter, ammeter
and
engine
ta:
chometer.
Connect alternator outlet line
to
alternator "B-
terminal.
Connect battery earth
cable.
