TROUBLESHOOTING

Before requesting service, use this chart and see if you can repair the trouble yourself. Small problems are often easily
corrected, and this can save you the trouble of sending your VCR off for repair.
POWER
SYMPTOM
1. The power will not come on.
2. The clock works, but the VCR's
power will not come on.
3. The Remote will not function.
TAPE TRANSPORT
SYMPTOM
1. The cassette gets stuck partway
during loading, and is ejected.
PLAYBACK
SYMPTOM
1. The tape is running but the pic-
ture will not appear.
2. Breaks are noticeable in Hi-Fi
sound track.
3. The playback picture is blurred or
interrupted, even though TV
broadcasts are clear.
4. The picture stops, or the black or
mosaic noise appears when play-
ing back a program recorded in
D-VHS mode.
5. The Hi-Fi sound cannot be heard. • Audio Monitor setting is incorrect.
6. The [D-VHS] indicator does not
light up when playing back a
D-VHS cassette.
7. The mosaic noise appears when
receiving the scenes with fast
action or switching the display.
8. Images cannot be displayed on
the TV. And the [

the front display panel lights up.
• The AC power cord is
disconnected.
• The VCR is in the timer recording
standby mode with "AUTO TIMER"
set to "OFF" (A page 66).
• The batteries are weak.
• The cassette was inserted
incorrectly.
• The TV receiver is set to the wrong
mode.
• Automatic tracking is engaged.
• The video heads may be dirty.
• The video heads may be dirty.
• The digital program is not recorded
in D-VHS mode.
• The program is not recorded in D-
VHS mode.
• This occurs when receiving the
program with the low transfer rate.
• Your TV supports only 480i image
] indicator on
format, but "TV OUTPUT 2" has
been previously set to "ALLto480p"
(A page 65).

Connect the AC power cord.
Press [TIMER (j)] to disengage.
Replace the dead batteries with new ones.

Make sure the cassette's window is
facing up, the rear label side is facing
you and the arrow on the front of the
cassette is pointing towards the VCR.
Then insert the cassette.

If you are using the AV, HDMI, DVI,
Component Video or S-Video
connection, set the TV to its AV mode.
Disengage auto tracking and adjust
the tracking manually (A page 30).

consult your JVC dealer.

To record in the D-VHS mode, use a
D-VHS cassette.
Set Audio Monitor to "U L R V" (A page 30).
To record the program in D-VHS
mode, press [D-VHS] so that the [D-
VHS] indicator lights up, then
perform the recording (A page 35).
This noise already appears in the
broadcast station, and this is not a
malfunction of your VCR.
Press [HDMI] on the front panel to
turn off the [HDMI] LED, and set "TV
OUTPUT 2" to "ALLto480i"
(A page 65).
When the main menu screen does
not appear even when [MENU] is
pressed, power off this VCR, press
and hold [PAUSE (W)] on the front
panel for more than 5 seconds, then
power on the VCR again.
