Receiving a Message from the Host System When the
X.21
Switched Network
Is Installed
1.
When the host system operator wishes to send a message to a terminal,
the message is received automatically and you do not have to be present
if one of the following symbols is also displayed in the Operator Infor-
mation Area:
a. Call Ready
( - - z -
)
b. CaU Ready with Communication Error Reminder
(~nn
or
~~5nn)
c. Call Ready with Call Progress Signal (
~Nnn
)
If the local symbol (
~"-
Cjq
) is displayed, press the
~
key,
then the COMM key. The Call Ready symbol (
---z- )
will be
displayed.
Notes:
1. IfComm Check (--"- .33,557, or 5
(::,-1 )
is displayed,
the following steps are not possible.
2. If you need to reject a call from the host system, press the
~
key,
and then the LOCAL key. The Local mode indicator
(~qq
or
5(~l':::f)
will be displayed in the Operator Infonnation Area. Any
incoming call from the host system while in local mode will be
rejected.
3. If the Local symbol

is displayed, press
the

key, then the COMM key. The Call Ready symbol

) will be displayed.

When the incoming call is in process, the Incoming Call in Process symbol
( .. --z..-

is displayed. When the network connection has been
established, the In Use symbol (
N )
is displayed, and the Incoming
Call in Process symbol will disappear.
3.
Your application may require you to perform a logon procedure before
you can enter data. Perform the logon procedure if required.
4.
Key in the message data, and press the ENTER key or the PF key specified
for your application.
5.
Note the formatted display or host-system response on your screen. If
required, press the RESET key and continue keying message data. Press
the ENTER or PF key when you have finished your message.
6.
When the data transmission is finished, the network is disconnected by:
a. Pressing of the
~
and DISC keys.
b. A Disconnect command from the host system.
c. A Clear Indication signal from the network.
d. An automatic timeout of the terminal.
While disconnection is in process, the In Use symbol ( N ) and the
Disconnect in Process symbol
(~):-
) are present. They will
disappear when disconnection is completed.
Note: For items band c, the Clear Indication symbol
(~

7.
You are now free to send a new message or to receive a message from the
host.
