If an error occurs while the card is being read, the red light on the reader turns
on, and a Do Not Enter
(X)
message may appear in the Operator Information
Area. If a Do Not Enter message is not displayed when an error occurs, try the
card again. If a Do Not Enter message is displayed when an error occurs, note
the meaning of the Do Not Enter message and take the appropriate action as
described in the Operator Information Area section of Chapter 2.
If your display station does not have a keyboard, try to reset the red light and
the Do Not Enter message by trying the card again or by trying a different card.
The following Do Not Enter messages are especially relevant when
magnetic. stripes are· being. read:

Before trying the card reader or the scanner a second time~checkthat:
1. The host systemhas not interrupted the reader operation.
2. The cursor is positioned on the screen as stated
in
the user's program guide.
3. You are passing the card through the reader slot correctly.
4. You are passing the hand scanner over the magnetic stripe correctly.
If the failure is still present after the operation is required, obtain a different
magnetic striped card and try again. If the failure still occurs, tell the appropriate
person in your organization.
