Introduction
This chapter is provided for experienced operators of the IBM 3275 and 3277
Display Stations who will be operating an IBM 3278 Display Station attached
to a 3274 Control Unit or to a 3276 Control Unit Display Station. The two
groups of machines are similar in operation, and only the differences in opera-
tion are described here. This chapter refers you to sections of Chapters 2, 3,
and 4 for detailed descriptions of some of the 3278 indicators, switches,
features, and keyboard operations. If your 3278 is not attached to a 3274
Control Unit or to a 3276 Control Unit Display Station, there may be differ-
ences other than those described here. Refer to the appropriate appendix for
a description of those differences.
If possible, sit at a 3278 display as you read this chapter so that you can use
the switches and keys as you read about them. If your display station has a
keyboard attached and if some point is not clear as you read, pause for a
moment to press the key and watch the result.
The IBM 3278 Display Station is shown in Figure 5-1. The 3278 (like a
3277) communicates with the host system through a control unit.
