Troubleshooting guide

Before requesting service, make the below checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not
solve the problem:

Servicentre nearest you.

Common problems
No sound.
Distorted sound.
Cannot select "DIGITAL" input.
No picture on the television.
Sound stops. "OVERLOAD"
appears on the receiver's display.
"F 70" appears on the receiver's
display.
No sound from the subwoofer,
center, or surround speakers.
Cannot select DSP sound modes.
Cannot tune the radio or there is a
lot of noise and interference.
No power.
The changer switches
automatically to the standby mode.
Disc play
No response when buttons are
pressed.
Play fails to start even when [1]
(play) is pressed.
Play starts but then stops
immediately.
Play of the DVD fails to start even
when [1] (play) is pressed.
³Turn muting off. R
³Turn on the speakers. D
³Turn off the tape monitor. R
³Select the correct source. I
³Change the DIGITAL input setting to suit the type of connection you have made. Y
³Check that the receiver can decode the digital signals. B
³Turn PCM FIX and DTS FIX off. B
³Check all connections. <–@
³Turn V.S.S. off if it is on. Q
³Ensure you have made the correct settings in "PCM Down Conversion", "Dolby Digital", and "DTS
Digital Surround". ]
³Turn DVD 6CH to DVD. I
³Cancel "DSP DEFEAT". G
³Change the television's input mode to suit the connections to the receiver or changer.
³Switch the receiver to standby, determine and correct the cause, then switch it on.
Causes include shorting of the positive and negative speaker wires, using speakers with an
impedance lower than rated for the receiver, straining of the speakers through excessive volume or
power, and using the unit in a hot environment.
³Switch the receiver to standby, disconnect the AC power supply cord, then reconnect and turn the
unit on. Consult your dealer if "F 70" remains on the display.
³Ensure the size settings for the speakers are correct. Y
³Check the DSP sound mode. B
³Check all connections. <–@
³Cancel "DSP DEFEAT". G
³Cancel "DSP DEFEAT". G
³Adjust the position of the FM or AM antenna. >
³Reduce the treble. S
³Select "DSP DEFEAT". G
³Turn off nearby televisions, video decks, DVD players, and satellite receivers.
³You may need an outdoor antenna or an antenna with more elements. >
³Separate the antenna from other cables, leads, and appliances. >
³Insert the AC power supply cord securely into the household AC outlet. ?
³The changer switches to standby after approximately 30 minutes in the stop mode to conserve
power. Press [POWER, ê/I] to turn the changer back on.
³The disc may prohibit some operations. E
³The changer may not be operating properly due to lightning, static electricity, or some other external
factor. You can remedy this by pressing [POWER, ê/I] to switch it to standby and then back on, or,
alternatively, press [POWER, ê/I] to switch to standby, disconnect the AC power supply cord and
then reconnect it.
³Condensation has formed inside the changer: Wait about 1 hour for it to evaporate.
³The changer cannot play discs other than DVD, Video CD, and CD. 3
³The changer cannot play DVDs with a region number other than "1", "ALL" or multiple region
numbers including "1". 3
³The disc may be dirty and may require cleaning.
³Insert the disc with the label of the side to be played facing upwards. D
³A disc or foreign object has fallen inside the changer. Open the drawer and remove the object.
³"SEQ. 2" is selected. Press [SEQUENTIAL MODE] to select "SEQ. 1". J
