Section 2 - Installation

Using the USB Port

This section describes how to install the cable modem using the USB port. First you connect the hardware (cable modem and power
adapter). You then install the software drivers and verify that the modem is operating properly. The USB port does not support the
Macintosh
operating system. Using the USB port to connect to the Internet enables you to install the cable modem more quickly
®
and easily than connecting to the Internet using the computer's Ethernet port, because you do not have to remove the case from the
computer to install a network interface card (NIC). Using the USB port, however, enables you to connect only one computer to the
cable modem. See "Installing the Cable Modem Using the Ethernet Port" if you wish to install the cable modem using the Ethernet
port.
If you have or plan on purchasing a router, please refer to the "Using the Ethernet Port" section on page 11. You cannot use the USB
connection with a router.
Note: Do not plug the USB modem into an external USB hub. Plug directly to your computer.
