    MX240 and MX480 Ethernet Services Router Fan Tray Installation Instructions Cooling System The cooling system consists of the following components: Fan tray Air filter The cooling system components work together to keep all router components within the acceptable temperature range (see Figure 1 on page 2, Figure 2 on page 2, Figure 3 on page 3, Figure 4 on page 3, Figure 5 on page 4, and Figure 6 on page 4).

The fan tray contains three fans on an MX240 router and six fans on an MX480 router.

    To replace the fan tray, use the following procedures: Removing the Fan Tray on page 5 Installing the Fan Tray on page 6 Removing the Fan Tray To remove the fan tray (see Figure 7 on page 5 and Figure 8 on page 6): Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
